Ethnic Studies

We are excited to announce that an Ethnic Studies course is coming to Winters High School starting in the 2025-2026 school year. This course will be an outstanding opportunity to heighten school engagement, improve student well being, teach 21st century skills, and increase community connections. The links on this page shine light on our district’s journey as we partner with students, parents, and community members to develop an Ethnic Studies program that is place-based, culturally responsive, and rooted in students’ identities and lived experiences.

**Winters JUSD Ethnic Studies Vision Statement:**

Through Winters JUSD’s Ethnic Studies program, students will better understand themselves, build deeper connections with others, demonstrate empathy and respect, and embrace and contribute to a culture of inclusion at school, in the community, and beyond.

**Winters JUSD Ethnic Studies Mission Statement:**

We will achieve this vision by listening to community voices, centering the stories of people of color, practicing civic engagement, and teaching through the four key themes of Ethnic Studies (identity, history and movement, systems of power, and social movements).
