Meet our Superintendent
Dr. Boonchouy

Rody Boonchouy was born and raised in southern California. He began his classroom experience teaching English overseas, and it was there that he developed a deep love for the field of education. But Rody’s love for education extends far beyond the confines of the classroom and lecture halls. He believes that true knowledge lies in experiencing the world firsthand, immersing himself in different cultures, and understanding diverse perspectives. His passport bears witness to the over 30 countries he has visited, each trip acting as a lesson in itself

Boonchouy’s academic background includes a BA in English from UC Berkeley, two Master’s degrees in Education (UC Riverside, University of La Verne), and a Doctorate in Educational Leadership from UC Davis. In his youth he held a variety of seasonal jobs, including working as a commercial fisherman in Alaska and driving tomato trucks in the California central valley.

Boonchouy spent much of his professional career in Davis Joint Unified School District, where he served on the founding team that built an innovative magnet school program known as the DaVinci Charter Academy. He was a classroom teacher there for seven years before working in the nonprofit sector to promote professional development for Project Based Learning. He returned to Da Vinci to serve as its principal, and eventually served as the Associate Superintendent for Davis Joint Unified School District for five years.

His overseas teaching experience, advanced degrees in education, expertise in designing educational programs from the ground up and his passion for equity and inclusion have created an educational philosophy that  truly benefits his students and his community.

Boonchouy joined Winters Joint Unified School District in the fall of 2022 as the Superintendent of Schools, and he brings with him a wealth of knowledge and a skill set that lends well to the small town community.
