Shirley Rominger Intermediate School is a small school focusing on the needs of students in grades four and five.
Teachers and staff at Shirley Rominger are committed to meeting the individual needs of all our students both academically and developmentally. Teachers work together in teams determined by grade level and intervention program. The academic program includes two clusters: mathematics/science and language arts/social science. Students also receive rigorous instruction in physical education, music, and technology. The grade level and intervention teams plan integrated units of study focusing on key standards and a variety of instructional strategies and approaches. During the morning core, students needing a structured approach to reading and the language arts are placed in an intervention core. Classes of no greater than fifteen receive targeted instruction with one core class dedicated to newcomers. We also offer one Dual Immersion class at each grade level. In addition to our academic goals, staff at Shirley Rominger strives to create a learning environment that capitalizes on one of our strongest resources, our community. Teachers, parents, and students work together to create an effective and participatory school program. Students have a voice in the school program through student leadership or simply presenting ideas to staff and parents. Students support the school program by helping with raising the flag, leading the school in the pledge of allegiance, working in the cafeteria, and helping student supervisors with equipment. Students participate in Science Club, Nature Bowl, Destination Imagination, Volleyball/Basketball Conditioning, Student Leadership, and Homework Club. |
